Bioinspired Soft Bendable Peristaltic Pump Exploiting Ballooning for High Volume Throughput

Interest in bioinspired peristaltic pumps has grown popularity among the scientific community last decade thanks to their extreme flexibility and intrinsic compliance. In this paper, we propose a soft pump exploiting ballooning. Our aim is promote propel forward ballooned region by controlling air pressure between balloon an external flexible containment tube, achieve pumping motion with simple design using only one control signal. This paper describes implementation of inlet-pump-outlet system, provides analytical model predict performance, showcases experimental results. We also implement computer simulation further characterize device. show that it possible high volumetric flow rates, up $4.4\;mL/s$ , single signal, paving way for more easy manufacture pumps.
